The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks pulled off a stunning 85-83 upset of No. 1 Duke on Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Stephen F. Austin entered the game as a 27.5 to 28-point underdog according to most sportsbooks, and trailed by five points at halftime. But the Lumberjacks outscored Duke 41-36 in the second half to send the game to overtime, and got a buzzer-beating layup from Nathan Bain for the unbelievable victory. The final sequence was wild:
It’s Duke’s first non-conference home loss since 2000 (a remarkable 150-game streak).
And it’s the biggest upset by a Division I team in college basketball over the last 15 seasons.
We’re a long way from March, but it will be very hard to top this game for the most stunning moment of the 2019-2020 college basketball season. What a monumental win for Stephen F. Austin.
