The South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team had a stirring weekend on the diamond. While the Georgia Bulldogs celebrated a sweep this weekend, the Dawgs weren’t the only SEC squad to accomplish that feat. South Carolina did, too, and made a lot of noise while doing so. The Gamecocks stunned the second-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores with a swift sweep this weekend.
South Carolina celebrated its sweep after taking the Commodores down on a sunny Sunday afternoon. They pulled the win off with a bang in the form of a 10-2 onslaught.
“GAMECOCKS SWEEP,” the Gamecock Baseball account boasted on Sunday afternoon.
The Gamecocks’ effort this weekend keeps them near the top of the SEC this season. They’re 4-2 early on in conference play, having won their first two series of the year. They’re only looking up at Kentucky, who are off to a 5-1 start in league play this season.
The strong start to league play adds to their 19-5 record this season. South Carolina, typically a baseball power, is off to another strong Columbia campaign this year. Vanderbilt is 19-6 on the year but is just 3-3 in league play. Vandy swept the Auburn Tigers last weekend but found themselves on the other end of the spectrum this weekend. So it goes.
South Carolina fans were elated after their Gamecocks pulled off the significant upset on Sunday afternoon.
