Oklahoma’s softball team entered the 2023 season as the two-time defending national champions. So, there wasn’t much doubt that the Sooners were the team to beat at the start of the season. The same was true when the postseason began, as Oklahoma lost only one game all year, and it came in February.
So, the Sooners didn’t sneak up on anyone. But in the end, it didn’t matter. Nobody could touch Oklahoma.
The Sooners squared off with Florida State in the Women’s College World Series Final. Oklahoma took Wednesday’s Game 1, winning 5-0 and moving their winning streak to a dominant 52 games. On Thursday, Oklahoma won its 53rd straight game. In the process, the Sooners completed the sweep of the Seminoles to win their third straight national championship and seventh overall, the sixth since 2013.
And as impressive as going 61-1 on the way to a third straight national championship, it doesn’t even convey how wholly dominant the Sooners were.
After the Sooners completed their win, softball fans were quick to pay tribute to the champions for their complete dominance.

How the Sooners stack up with the other great champions in the history of college sports is up to the individual. That said, it’s hard to imagine arguing that any other team has been more dominant against its competition.
