The 2024 NCAA Softball season is now underway. The Oklahoma Sooners got that memo and decided to come out blazing. OU is in the midst of leaving its mark again on the sport, and it did so with a bang.
As if the Sooners, the three-time reigning NCAA Champions who’ve won 53 games in a row, have been a pain to deal with, it appears their incoming freshman class might be a terror to deal with, too.
Freshman Kasidi Pickering decided to get in on all the fun. In her first collegiate at-bat, Pickering stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. She decided to let it fly and connected. Moments later, she was celebrating her first home run as a Sooner. And it was no ordinary homer, either. She hit an opposite-field Grand Slam!
The Sooners have been known to hit home runs by the barrel, so maybe that detail isn’t surprising. But it’s quite the turn of fate for Pickering, who couldn’t have started her college career any better.
OU once again looks like the team to beat in the college softball landscape. At this point, they are not only at the top of the hill. They might as well just own it.
