The top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners showed off their skills with the bats in a 16-1 victory over the Texas Longhorns in Game 1 of the Women’s College World Series national championship series (Oklahoma’s six home runs were a WCWS record).
And in Game 2, the Sooners are flashing the leather.
In the bottom of the second inning on Thursday night, Oklahoma center fielder Jayda Coleman made an incredible catch to rob the Longhorns’ Courtney Day of a home run.
That would be an amazing, highlight-reel play under any circumstances. But in the Women’s College World Series finals? That really makes it a special play, and it’s certainly one that Coleman will never forget.
This is a best-of-three series, so Oklahoma would be national champions with a victory- and Coleman’s catch being part of a title-clinching win would easily make it an all-timer. And it would make for back-to-back championships for the Sooners.
Update: Oklahoma indeed won the game, securing back-to-back national championships!
