Some April Fools’ jokes are better than others, as they can take a life of their own on social media. Even with the date being April 1, those in the college baseball world were inclined to believe that the Ohio University Bobcats were debuting some new jerseys, which are objectively ugly.
The college baseball world was taken aback by those hideous-looking jerseys, which were trending all over Twitter. The Ohio University baseball official Twitter account tweeted out a picture of some throwback threads early Saturday morning and the reactions were about what you’d expect.
“ohio cmon guys,” the Portland Pickles tweeted.
“This is a decision,” said Nick de la Torre.
“You got a fireplace?” another fan joked.
The tweet gained more than 325,000 views and the Ohio Bobcats baseball team later included the photo of the jersey in a graphic for their game against Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The bit took a life of its own before those in the sports world realized that today is April Fools’ Day.
Ohio waited about five hours before admitting that the hideous jerseys were a troll job in line with the calendar.
“Okay okay April fools,” the Ohio baseball account tweeted. “Here are this year’s actual new threads, paying homage to the 1970 College World Series squad.”
Obviously, that tweet didn’t get the same kind of reaction, even if the jerseys are significantly better looking.
