The No. 14 Northwestern Wildcats — a 16.5-point underdog — are looking to upset the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday in Indianapolis. And if their defense can keep playing defense in the second half like they did in the first half, maybe the Wildcats can indeed get a victory.
Northwestern held the Ohio State offense to six points in the first half, and capped off the impressive showing with an unbelievable interception by freshman safety Brandon Joseph.
Ohio State was at Northwestern’s nine-yard line with around 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter, and Joseph made a one-handed interception on a pass from Ohio State star quarterback Justin Fields. This was a slightly underthrown pass from the usually precise Fields, but it’s much more an incredible play by a defender than it is a bad pass.
That’s Joseph’s nation-leading sixth interception of the season. Again, he’s a freshman. So, Northwestern has a special one there.
Unfortunately for Northwestern, they too threw an interception from the nine-yard line that was picked off by Ohio State in the end zone on the opening drive of the second half.
But Fields threw another interception — due to miscommunication with a receiver — on the drive after that!
All of a sudden, the Big Ten Championship Game has turned into an interception fest.
