We’re only in February, but a Catch of the Year contender has already emerged in college baseball.
Houston Cougars center fielder Drew Bianco made an insane catch in the sixth inning of Sunday’s game against the Incarnate Word Cardinals at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, TX.
In the top of the sixth inning, Bianco fell over the wall (and right in front of a playground), while catching a baseball. The unbelievable catch robbed Incarnate Word’s Alec Carr of a home run.
As you may have noticed, the Houston Baseball Twitter account notes that Bianco “just did that AGAIN.”
That’s because Bianco made another incredible home-run robbing catch recently. On Feb. 18, Bianco robbed a home run against the California Golden Bears.
Bianco transferred to Houston over the offseason after spending four seasons in the SEC for the LSU Tigers.
Unfortunately for Bianco, Houston lost both games that he robbed a home run and is now 2-5 in the early going of the 2023 college baseball season. The Cougars went 37-24 in the 2022 season, so between that performance and the plays Bianco is making at the premium position of center field, perhaps better results will come soon for Houston this season.
