Just a few hours after news that the Pac-12 will have college football in 2020, the Mountain West announced that their conference will have football this fall as well.
The Mountain West revealed on Thursday night that their 2020 season will begin on Oct. 24, with each school playing an eight-game schedule. The conference title game will be played on Dec. 19.
The Mountain West had announced on Aug. 10 that all 2020 fall sports were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conference consists of Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Utah State, and Wyoming. In 2019, Boise State went 8-0 in conference play and beat Hawaii in the conference championship game. The Broncos (No. 23) and Air Force (No. 22) finished the season ranked in the AP polls.
It remains to be seen what this means for television networks and scheduling, but last December, the Mountain West reached TV deals with Fox and CBS Sports Network that were to go into effect this July.
With the Mountain West and Pac-12 deciding to play, that means that 115 of the 130 FBS teams will play this fall, and the MAC is set to have a vote for their season on Friday.
So, it turns out there’s going to be a lot of college football this year after all.
