Is Texas back? That, as always, remains to be seen. But the news that Arch Manning will play quarterback for the Longhorns in 2023 certainly has a lot of the school’s biggest alumni excited about the potential.
Manning, considered the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2023 by many, chose to play for Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns over Alabama and Georgia. And while the college football world has certainly had some big reactions to the news, Texas alums have been chiming in with their excitement.
That includes Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey, who is not only an alumnus but also a professor of practice at UT-Austin, not to mention a massive Texas football fan.
“Manning up #hookem,” McConaughey wrote on Thursday, upon seeing the news of Arch’s commitment.
In the words of the actor himself, it appears that this news is alright, alright, alright.
The 6’4″, 215-pound quarterback has thrown for over 5,000 passing yards and over 70 touchdowns in his three-year career with Isidore Newman High School. He’ll bring a ton of hype with him to Steve Sarkisian’s program and anything less than a national title will probably be seen as a disappointment. But then again, that’s always the case for the Longhorns anyway.
You better believe that McConaughey will be rooting for Manning and the Longhorns, and probably attending a few of their games, too.
