There is no recruit in the 2023 football recruiting class more touted than Arch Manning. The nephew of Peyton and Eli is the No. 1 recruit in the 2023 class and the numbers back that up. The 6’4″, 215-pound quarterback has thrown for 1,675 yards and 24 touchdowns this season at Isidore Newman.
Manning has been getting visits from some of the top football programs in the country and the frontrunners to land his commitment include Texas, Clemson, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia.
Ole Miss is also near the top of the list. Considering Eli Manning made a name for himself there, people think that the Louisiana native might want to stay nearby and play there as well. So it’s perhaps no surprise that Lane Kiffin, head coach of the Rebels, appears to be making plans to see Manning play in person this evening as Isidore Newman battles Episcopal in the state playoffs.
While that might seem shady, Kiffin can tweet that under new NCAA rules that allow coaches to mention high school teams publicly or geotag the schools while recruiting off-campus. Previously, college coaches were not allowed to endorse any noninstitutional athletic events or prospect’s high school team.
Manning is hoping to accomplish something neither of his uncles ever did, win a state championship. Tonight’s game is the quarterfinals of the Division III LHSAA playoffs. The winner will play the winner of No. 1 seeded Lafayette Christian vs. No. 8 Ascension Episcopal in the semis.
