The Lamar Cardinals softball team is in the news after its third baseman made an absolutely amazing play.
Cardinals third baseman Sam Bean took a rocket off the bat of a Southern U batter. She grabbed it barehanded and then fired off to first!
The video of the incredible play went viral soon after the amazing play was made.
Lamar Softball went crazy. “ARE YOU KIDDING?!? @sammysue_b24 with the bare hand and trust us she was out,” they tweeted in excitement.
The NCAA Softball account called the play “ABSURD.” It’s hard to argue with that! The degree of difficulty and concentration is outrageous.
The Southland Conference, where Lamar is settled, also commented on the play. “Don’t mind us, we’re just sitting here watching Sam Bean’s incredible barehanded play on repeat,” they tweeted.
“YES. IT. IS,” Lamar softball assistant coach Tara McKenney tweeted.
McKenney also responded to the Southland Conference’s post, calling it an “unbelievable play.”
“Skills, concentration, and determination,” one fan tweeted.
“Now this is what you call a heck of a play by 3B!” Bayley Stewart tweeted.
Lamar lost the game 2-1 to Southern, in a game that funnily enough ended on a double play. The Cardinals are a dismal 10-26 on the season. But, with that being said, they absolutely grabbed some headlines and attention with Bean’s incredible catch on Wednesday.
