The sports world was stunned on Friday when a massive and historic upset went down in college softball.
Kansas Softball scored a huge victory as they defeated the Oklahoma State Cowgirls 8-7 in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. The win was the first of its kind for Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament since all the way back in 2007!
“KU completes the comeback to secure its first Big 12 Championship win since 2007, defeating #8 Oklahoma State!” the program excitedly tweeted.
Kansas made some serious noise with this upset. The Cowgirls have been one of the best teams in the nation. If it weren’t for their in-state rivals from Norman, Oklahoma State would have all the glory in the state. They’ve been a top-quality team, but nobody told Kansas that.
With the victory, Kansas advanced in the tournament and will play Texas. The Jayhawks already own a victory over the Longhorns this season, but Texas took two of three from them in a weekend set in April.
After the historic upset went final, plenty had a lot to say about it!
Austin Eckert issued much-deserved congratulations.
“MAYhem,” wrote a softball fan.
A local sports director “couldn’t be happier for this group” as they celebrated the win.
And since it’s Kansas, you know there were several “ROCK CHALK” tweets out there like this one.
