No. 19 Iowa wins protracted game against Iowa State after two Cyclones’ players collided on a punt return

The No. 19 Iowa Hawkeyes’ road clash with the Iowa State Cyclones Saturday had plenty of interest around it, especially with ESPN’s College GameDay coming to Ames for the first time and with tickets going for $272 and up on the secondary market, the most-demanded ticket in the state of Iowa since SeatGeek started tracking those stats in 2010.And the game itself wound up being quite the event, including with a long weather delay that bumped the first half of Nebraska’s home game against Northern Illinois (originally supposed to follow Iowa-Iowa State on FS1) to Fox Business. But the ending wound up being especially memorable. With 1:35 left and an 18-17 lead, Iowa punted, and Iowa State looked to have a chance for a final game-winning drive. That was before two Cyclones’ players collided and the Hawkeyes easily recovered the punt, though:

That let Iowa run out the clock for the win, and it led to a lot of Twitter jokes, especially about Hawkeyes’ head coach Kirk Ferentz’s proclivity for punting (even if that was dialed down last year).
