Failed Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker is returning to the university that made him a football star.
According to Greg Bluestein of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Walker has re-enrolled at the University of Georgia to earn his college degree “as he retreats from the public spotlight following his humbling defeat.”
The university’s registrar confirmed to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Walker is attending summer classes. A university official told the paper that the Republican was “recently spotted at an academic advisor’s office at the Franklin College of Arts & Sciences.”
Walker faced incumbent Democratic Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock in one of the most bitterly contested elections of the 2022 midterm cycle. Both sides spent more than an eye-popping $470 million on an election that went far into a special runoff in December.
As the Atlanta Constitution-Journal notes, Walker has taken a “far lower profile” since his defeat. He has only made “a few public appearances” and “hardly posted on social media.” He’s even “shunned the conservative outlets that once lionized his bid for office.”
Former aides and friends also told the paper that they “haven’t kept in touch with the candidate who once referred to his staff as ‘family.'”
Walker had falsely claimed to have graduated from the University of Georgia during the campaign. Now, he’ll return to class to make that dream a reality.
