A college baseball player just went lift-off and then some. ECU’s Carter Cunningham just sent a pitch all the way to a practice football field!
Cunningham and the ninth-ranked Pirates jumped out in front over Old Dominion in a huge way. Cunningham took Old Dominion right-handed starter Landen Burch deep on a monster shot that soared through the air.
The ball didn’t come down all the way until it landed at the practice football field! As 11point7 pointed out, it was an “absolute bomb.”
Cunningham has raised his average up to .311 after the tremendous power display. He earned a walk in his second plate appearance of the night.
The Pirates own a commanding 4-0 lead over Old Dominion at the moment. Thus far, the ninth-ranked Pirates have passed many tests. ECU ranks 15th in RPI this season as the highest-ranked AAC team.
Thus far, ECU is 24-8 on the college baseball season and on its way to win #25. They own a robust 20-2 record at home but are 4-6 in road/neutral games this year.
The home run was also the team’s 78th of the season going into the night. Cincinnati currently leads the American in home runs with 87 going into Tuesday night. ECU’s 78 are good for second place, five up on third-place UCF.
This was Cunningham’s fourth home run of the college baseball season. So far, Bryson Worrell leads ECU and the AAC in homers with 20. But Cunningham emerged as the big slugger for ECU on Tuesday night to say the very least.
