MACtion is in full swing, and that means some Tuesday night college football for you CFB junkies and graduates of these fine institutions of higher learning.
Next Tuesday happens to be an important day for the United States of America, as it is Election Day, where we choose a new President, plenty of local and state positions and some important bills too. It also happens to be the night that Eastern Michigan continues its rise to the top of the MAC with a game against Ball State.
Combine the two and you get the Eagles wanting to remind people that voting is important. Thus, the “VOTE” helmet was born.
Here’s how Eastern Michigan is putting its spin on the idea:
“In the political world, the night will be about red and blue states, but on the field the Eagles will do their best to honor the election of the United States of America’s 45th President. Eastern Michigan will wear its white helmet that will be adorned with a patriotic inspired Block E design.”
The patriotic helmet stickers aren’t exactly a new invention, but the stripe featuring the names of every president in history is pretty damn cool.
As for the message, it’s a great one to get out there, but it also is a strange reminder to people to skip out on watching the Eagles and Cardinals play on TV and go vote instead, or turn to their cable news channel of choice and watch Election Night coverage. (Football could be a nice escape from that.)
We’re pretty sure butts in the seats and eyeballs on the television screen matter a lot to Eastern Michigan and the MAC’s future ESPN (or whomever takes the rights) contract.
So go vote, and then tune in to Eastern Michigan-Ball State. It’ll be better than watching the disaster that has been this election cycle come to a close.
