Former United States president Donald Trump spent the last week telling his followers on Truth Social that he will likely be arrested on Tuesday.
Manhattan Attorney District Alvin Bragg, a Democrat, has been investigating Trump on state charges related to campaign finance violations. Trump allegedly paid off numerous sex workers to stay silent about their encounters during the 2016 campaign before billing a private company to recoup the money.
Whether Trump becomes the first former president in American history to be arrested after leaving office remains to be seen. However, the current legal turmoil didn’t stop Trump from traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma, over the weekend to observer the NCAA Division I Wrestling Finals.
Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Oklahoma) told Tulsa World that Trump’s trip featured “no politics,” but was rather about showing the former president what “Tulsa had to offer.”
Mullin noted that he went out of his way to make time for Trump after his sons visited him at Mar-A-Largo in Florida, the state where Trump currently resides and where Mullin maintains a residence.
Mullin, however, noted that authorities have been chasing Trump since “Day 1” and that they should focus on “catching the bad guys” instead.
The paper noted that Trump received a “warm if not overwhelming reception in the BOK Center,” and that it “didn’t compare” to the attention given the wrestlers on the center mat.
