After the first weekend of the new college football season, we saw some major movement in the AP Top 25.
While Alabama remained No. 1 after their resounding 55-0 victory over Utah State, there was a bit of change at No. 2.
Georgia after their pounding of then-No. 11 Oregon, jumped Ohio State and took the No. 2 spot.
Although the Buckeyes did beat Notre Dame Saturday 21-10, it was clear the voters were more impressed with the Bulldogs’ victory over the Ducks.
It was a rough week for the Pac-12. Both of their top-15 teams, Oregon and Utah, lost to SEC teams, which cost them in the rankings. The good news for the Pac-12 is that USC did move into the top-10.
After being thrashed by Georgia, Oregon fell completely out of the top-25. And Utah, who lost to Florida in a wild game, was dropped to No. 13 with the Gators moving ahead of them at No. 12.
The SEC had a good first week; all of its teams won except for LSU, who lost to Florida State on Sunday. The conference has eight teams ranked in the top-25, including three teams in the top-10.
The Big Ten has three teams in the top-25, including two in the top-five, Ohio State and Michigan. Michigan jumped Clemson in the rankings, even after the Tigers’ win over Georgia Tech on Labor Day.
College football fans of course have a lot of opinions on this week’s poll.
