Texas Tech baseball won a game under thrilling and blunder-filled circumstances on Friday.
The Red Raiders played the Oklahoma State Cowboys to begin a Big XII weekend series. The game went to extras and was tied up at 7 runs apiece in the bottom of the seventh. Gavin Kash hit one to left field, where Cowboys outfielder Nolan Schubert appeared poised to end the inning.
But, in the end, Schubert made an absolutely insane blunder. He pulled a Luis Castillo and dropped the easy flyout! Texas Tech then went on to win the game while everyone else went into bedlam.
Fittingly, the Red Raiders baseball account tweeted, “Madness” in response to the epic finish.
What’s more, is that Texas Tech had to climb all the way back for this one. They were down six runs at one point in the game.
The college baseball world buzzed over the highlight of the absurd blunder, which went viral.
“STRAIGHT KASH HOMIE,” tweeted a fan.
“March Madness, Texas Tech baseball style!” tweeted another fan.
“KASH MONEY,” tweeted Mike Canizales.
“DAWGS,” another fan tweeted in support of the Red Raiders.
“Another reason you run everything out,” Kris Yeaman tweeted.
And one fan credited the lovely Lubbock wind for the victory.
Texas Tech baseball will continue playing Oklahoma State this weekend. We’ll see if they can draw out anything as epic as this.
