There were shades of Trevor Lawrence during Clemson’s game against Syracuse on Friday night, courtesy of the Tigers’ punter.
Clemson punter Will Spiers made a ridiculous pass on a fake punt in the second quarter. It featured a great leaping catch from Davis Allen in double coverage.
But this throw and pump-fake is pretty incredible from a *punter*:
That ended up being a very important play for Clemson, leading to a touchdown to take a 14-7 lead into halftime.
It should come as no surprise that Spiers was a quarterback in high school at Calhoun Academdy (St. Matthews, SC). He even got some snaps at quarterback in a Clemson blowout win over Georgia Tech last year, completing 2-of-3 passes.
