The Sept. 19 football game between BYU and Army has been postponed after “a small number of positive COVID-19 test results and the resulting tracing exposures within the BYU football program,” BYU announced on Saturday.
The Cougars’ upcoming road tilt at Army, originally scheduled for next Saturday, Sept. 19, has been delayed because of a “small number” of positive tests for COVID-19 found within BYU’s program, the school announced Saturday afternoon.
“We appreciate the university administration, state health officials and a variety of medical experts who have helped us navigate these unprecedented times,” BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe said in a prepared statement. “While we share the disappointment of everyone involved in the game between BYU and Army, safety as well as the physical and mental well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the opposing team is our top priority.”
BYU and Army will look to reschedule the game, which was supposed to be televised on CBS next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
The Tulsa-Oklahoma State game was recently moved back a week after Tulsa wasn’t able to practice much due to a nine-day pause caused by positive COVID-19 tests, and it was announced on Saturday that the Memphis-Houston game has been postponed following positive COVID-19 tests within the Memphis program (additionally, Houston will now play Baylor next weekend instead). We’ll likely be seeing a lot of this in the 2020 college football season.
BYU is coming off a extremely impressive 55-3 blowout victory at Navy. Their next game is on Sept. 26 against Troy at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, UT.
