The Alabama Crimson Tide (No. 3 CFP, No. 4 AP) pulled off an impressive 41-24 win against the Georgia Bulldogs (No. 1 in both of those rankings) in Saturday’s SEC Championship Game. A major part of that was their offensive production, as the Tide scored more points (31) in one 17-minute span than the Bulldogs had allowed in any prior month this year. And a lot of that offense came from QB Bryce Young, who completed 26 of 44 passes (59.1 percent) for 421 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions while also running three times for 40 yards and a touchdown. Here are Young’s touchdowns:
That’s an amazing effort from Young, and it may do a lot to strengthen his Heisman case (where he was already the favorite ahead of Saturday’s games, as per at least some sets of odds). On the year, he had thrown for 3,901 yards with a 68.9 percent completion rate entering this game, plus he’d thrown 40 touchdowns against four interceptions. His stats now look better still (4,322 yards and 43 touchdowns). And his performance also has the Tide set for a spot in the College Football Playoff, and likely even the top seed.
