The Iowa Hawkeyes offense has struggled mightily this college football season, managing just 10 points combined in its first two games of the season against South Dakota State and Iowa State. As a result, someone took the time to troll offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz – the son of head coach Kirk Ferentz –in a hilariously unique way, tricking former Iowa player Bob Stoops and current Iowa basketball head coach Fran McCaffery into making videos for him.
Both Stoops and McCaffery are featured on the website Cameo, where fans can request a personalized message from athletes and celebrities for a fee. Given Iowa’s offensive struggles, somebody appears to have ordered Cameo videos from Stoops and McCaffery to share with Ferentz – and they had no idea.
“Hello there, Brian. Bob Stoops here saying ‘hi.’ Listen, I know you’ve had a tough couple of two or three years there, but the good news is your family still supports you, buddy,” Stoops said in the video shared by Andy Staples. “Especially your dad – he wants you to know that. Even though everyone else seems to be against you, sometimes the best advice is to break free from the family business, man. Go do what you’ve gotta do.”
“Hey Brian, Fran McCaffery here,” McCaffery said in his video, shared by Barstool Iowa. “I wanted to reach out and let y0 know that all of us in the Hawkeye family are thinking about you. Your family loves you, your dad loves you, the Hawkeyes love you. Maybe think about making a move back to New England. But wherever go, wherever you are, the Hawkeye family will always be with you.”
It’s clear to most fans who the video is for, but neither Stoops nor McCaffery caught on, leading to hilarious results.
