You’ve heard of a dunk shattering the backboard but have you ever heard of a dunk breaking the entire hoop apparatus?
We don’t even know what to call whatever it is that broke when KeShawn Murphy of Ramsay High School in Birmingham dunked during a high school game recently. It’s kinda hard to really explain so just watch…
It’s like something out of a Final Destination movie, except thankfully no one appeared to be hurt. It happened Ramsay’s game versus Carver High School, which was immediately halted for reasons that we think are obvious. That’s not exactly a quick fix. The game will be resumed next Thursday due to a “goal malfunction” and hopefully they get some extra screws to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
Carver game will be finished @ Ramsay next Thursday after the Carver/Ramsay game #2. We will finish the remaining 4:00 min. Goal malfunction @ Carver.

Murphy, a 3-star power forward who is committed to playing for Mississippi State, checks in at 6-foot-10 and 225 pounds, so if anyone was going to bring that thing down, it was probably going to be him.
It’s worth noting that most people probably didn’t see something like this coming, especially because it hasn’t been that long that Murphy has been this big and this strong.
His story is similar to [Los Angeles Lakers forward] Anthony Davis. He walked into our program as a 6-3 shooting guard and blossomed into a talented 6-10 forward. KeShawn can handle the ball like a guard and can score at all three levels. He has worked hard and improved a different facet of his game each season. There’s no doubt in my mind that he is a future pro.
You better believe the MSU equipment folks are double-checking their facilities and hoop strengths right now.
