The Golden State Warriors have had a frustrating stretch of seasons. Despite having the greatest shooter in the NBA on the roster in Stephen Curry, Golden State has not been able to find success in the playoffs.
This season, the Warriors missed the playoffs entirely after falling to the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Play-In tournament.
I still love coaching, but I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date. There’s a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas and all that,” Kerr said after the Play-In Loss.
There was speculation after the year that head coach Steve Kerr may not return.
While Kerr has signed an extension, two of his trusted assistants will indeed not be back. Top assistants Jerry Stackhouse and Terry Stotts will not see their contracts renewed by the organization.
“I enjoyed my time with Steve, the staff and players,” Stotts said, according to ESPN. “My two years there were fulfilling. Nothing but well wishes.”
Both Stotts and Stackhouse were on Kerr’s staff for two seasons. Now, Kerr’s attention will be on replacing the holes on his staff and building another contender.
“This organization has meant so much to me for the last 12 years − from ownership to our players, our staff and our fans − and it’s an incredible privilege to be a part of something so special,” Kerr said after signing his extension. “I’m excited to keep competing with this group.”
