Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers is bothered by a famous phrase used amongst NBA players and athletes worldwide.
Myers recently went on an episode of the ‘All the Smoke’ podcast with outspoken hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. While they chatted, they discussed a very prevalent phrase and its usage among NBA players and athletes.
Athletes all over have looked up to the late NBA great and Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant for years. Bryant coined the phrase “Mamba Mentality” in his approach to both the sport of basketball and to life itself. But Myers doesn’t think that anyone else should use that phrase now.
On the podcast, he said via Lakers Daily, “When people use the Memba Mentality, you guys don’t do that. You’re not him. Nobody should be allowed to say that. I’m sorry. There is nobody like him.”
Myers continued on as he talked about how much it bothered him that others have used the popular phrase. “When people say that, it bothers me,” he said. “And I’m like, I don’t pretend like I do that, but I’m like, you don’t get to say that. That’s not a throwaway line. I”m sorry, but that went with him. Come up with something else.”
The Warriors GM’s discontent with the phrase is a bit surprising, perhaps because of how against the grain it is. But there might be a point to be made.
