TMZ released a video of NBA veteran J.R. Smith beating up a protester this weekend in Los Angeles. The man allegedly had smashed the window of Smith’s truck.

In a follow-up video, Smith explained the incident:
“… Before you all see this shit somewhere else. One of these little motherfucking white boys didn’t know where he was going and broke my fucking window in my truck. Broke my shit. This was a residential area. No stores over here. None of that shit. Broke my window. I chased him down and whooped his ass.
So when the footage comes out and you all see it, I chased him down and whooped his ass. He broke my window. This ain’t no hate crime. I ain’t got no problem with nobody, and nobody got no problem with me. There’s a problem with the motherfucking system. That’s it. The motherfucker broke my window and I whooped his ass. He didn’t know who window he broke, and he got his ass whooped.”
Smith, 34, has played for NBA teams over 15 seasons, most recently with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018. He won an NBA championship with the Cavs in 2016, and was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year with the New York Knicks in 2013.
The NBA free agent was also seen on a bike ride with LeBron James and Anthony Davis this weekend in Los Angeles.
