The Phoenix Suns are looking to add depth at point guard, and are reportedly eyeing one player in particular: Derrick Rose.
The three-time All-Star and 2011 NBA MVP is buried on the New York Knicks bench, and hasn’t seen action since Dec. 31.
Rose could complement Chris Paul and Cameron Payne for the Suns, who recently landed superstar Kevin Durant in a blockbuster trade.
The 34-year-old guard is under contract for $14.5 million this season and the Knicks have a team option of $15.6 million for 2023-24, although they reportedly don’t plan to pick that up.
According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, “A buyout still feels unlikely, but sources close to the situation don’t believe the door is completely shut on the possibility.”
Rose is obviously many years and many injuries away from his 2011 MVP form, but experience can be priceless in the postseason. Rose, a career 17.7 points per game scorer, is averaging 5.8 points and 1.8 assists in 12.9 minutes per game this season.
NBA fans had mixed feelings on this news.
