Coming into the NBA Finals, Steph Curry was a three-time NBA champion, a two-time league MVP, a one-time All-Star Game MVP, and he had earned the first-ever Magic Johnson Award, honoring the MVP of the Western Conference Finals. The honor missing from Curry’s resume was an NBA Finals MVP Award. That’s no longer the case.
The Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics in Game 6 103-90 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to win Curry’s fourth championship. Shortly after the series ended, Curry earned the one prize that had eluded him, as he was named the series MVP.
NBA fans were quick to recognize Curry finally getting this one last monkey off of his back.

While the Warriors won Game 5, Curry struggled, particularly with his outside shooting. He went 0-for-9 on three-pointers in that game. But those shooting woes were only temporary. Curry quickly shook them off and found his three-point shot again in Game 6.
Curry’s selection was unanimous, which was hardly surprising. Curry averaged 31.2 points, six rebounds, and five assists per game in the series. Additionally, while Curry has never been known as a particularly great defender, he averaged two steals per contest in Golden State’s six-game victory. He shot 48.2% from the field, 43.7% on threes, and 85.7% on free throws in the series.
