The Golden State Warriors have serious questions to answer on the direction of the franchise over the next couple of weeks. After failing to make the playoffs this season, Golden State and longtime head coach Steve Kerr, who has won four titles with the franchise, are taking time to decide on whether it makes sense for him to return.

Kerr admitted in a recent interview with the New Yorker that his decision is difficult because stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are still under contract, otherwise he would step down.

Interestingly, Curry, who was one of the most underpaid superstars in the league for a large portion of his career, believes that NBA players as a whole are underpaid.

“I think because the way the CBA is structured right now, we can’t participate in equity. And that’s a big deal because it’s a partnership with ownership, the league and we’re on the short term of that revenue,” Curry said in a July interview.

“The idea that we can’t participate in equity while we’re playing is a part of why I would say yes, we are underpaid because you want to be able to participate in that rise.I know we’re blessed to be in a position where we’re playing basketball for a living, and these are the type of checks that people are earning…

“Hopefully, sooner than later those rules change a little bit so that players can participate more in the upside of team equity. I think we deserve it.”

As Kerr is well aware, Curry is currently slated to earn $62.6 million in salary next season, so while he’s likely not talking about himself in particular, it’s an interesting argument in regard to the league as a whole.
