Among all of the bizarre stories coming out of a wild Game 6 of the NBA Finals, this is perhaps the most bizarre. The father-in-law of Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry was nearly arrested because NBA security thought he was a con artist that has sneaked into various sporting events in the past.

Curry’s father-in-law, the father of his wife Ayesha, was detained by security and had his credentials examined. The NBA was looking for David Aminzadeh, who has been arrested before after sneaking into the 2015 NBA All-Star Game.

“I was just kind of debriefed on what the security thought happened with some guy that poses with fake credentials and gets backstage at a lot of events, the NBA Finals and all that stuff,” Curry told The Undefeated as he departed from the arena. “They kind of profiled my father-in-law and thought he was him. They threatened to arrest him before they checked out his credentials. It’s kind of been an emotional and tough night all the way around.

“That was kind of a traumatic situation where her [Ayesha’s] dad almost got arrested. So it was kind of a tough situation to deal with in a hostile environment. All in all, it’s just a game. I hope that everybody is all right.”

Curry’s wife, active as ever on Twitter during Game 6, tweeted about the case of mistaken identity.

Curry scored a team-high 30 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. After the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr ripped the officials and defended his star player. Curry also threw his mouthguard, hitting the son of a Cavaliers minority owner.
