Los Angeles Lakers guard Patrick Beverley learned a hard lesson Saturday night.
Don’t ever carry a camera on the court to show officials they missed a call.
Bedlam broke out at the end of regulation between the Lakers and Boston Celtics in the TD Garden. With the score tied, LeBron James drove the lane as the final seconds ticked down and was clearly fouled. But officials did not call the obvious foul, setting up overtime.
As the two teams prepared for OT, Beverley walked out on the court holding a camera showing the play where Jayson Tatum hacked James. He tried to show it to NBA official Eric Lewis. The veteran Lewis was clearly miffed at the unprecedented act. He shook his head and assessed Beverley a technical, motioning him off the court.
As Beverley walked away he gestured at the camera, shouting something back at Lewis.
NBA fans who caught the bizarre events applauded Beverley for trying to make his point.
“Patrick Beverley just became my favorite player,” tweeted Jonny Linehan.
“Imagine giving a guy a tech because he showed you how wrong you were,” tweeted a fan.
“That’s the greatest thing I’ve ever seen,” tweeted Jeffrey Montagna.
“He shows the ref he was wrong but got a T?” noted one fan.
