It’s not a sports championship battle until the fans start pledging allegiances to their favorite teams on their lawns. In Cleveland, neighboring Cavaliers fans have gone the extra distance just before the beginning of the NBA Finals by cutting their fandom into the blades of grass in their front lawns.
A photo presumably taken by drone — or maybe satellite! — shows two neighbors who expressed their support for the defending NBA champs on their front yards. One lawn can be seen with “CAVS” cut into the grass (kind of crudely, but it can be read). Next door, a house with a little more lawn to work with went a little bit fancier, cutting in “Defend the Land,” the motto of Cleveland fans everywhere.
The Cavs posted an image of the two lawns on their Twitter account.
Of course, as this photo shows, the message is best viewed from above. You may not be able to make out the message while walking the dog, jogging past the homes or even driving by, but those flying above should be able to look out their plane window and see the lawn art perfectly.
The Cleveland Cavaliers look to defend their NBA championship against the Golden State Warriors starting with Thursday’s Game 1 in Oakland, California. It is the third straight year the two NBA powers have collided with each other in the NBA Finals, with Golden State winning in 2015 and Cleveland coming back in historic fashion last summer.
