The NBA is growing more and more popular in the United States as the safety concerns regarding football and the NFL continue to mount. However, the United States isn’t the only place where the sport is growing.

Basketball is exploding in popularity globally as well, and the NBA seems poised to take advantage of the opportunity, according to one prominent Twitter account that covers basketball both domestically and abroad.

“REPORT: The NBA Europe league will start in 2027 with teams based in London and Manchester,” reported Legion Hoops on Twitter.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“If players are getting paid similarly I don’t see a reason why European players would come to America to play ball anymore,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“They should have started this in France, Greece, Serbia, and Slovenia,” someone else added, noting countries where basketball is really taking off.

“This is where they should send the kids who wanna leave hs and the actual g-league guys who could be given the chance. This is the new development league,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how the teams do in Europe. If the venture is successful, basketball tournaments could turn global in a similar way to the UEFA Champions League.
