Metta Sandiford-Artest, more commonly known as “Metta World Peace” to NBA fans, was one of the most enigmatic figures in the league during his playing days.
Most famously, Sandiford-Artest, then known as only “Ron Artest,” played a pivotal role in sparking the Malice at the Palace when he decided to enter the stands to assault a Detroit Pistons fans he incorrectly thought had thrown a beer upon him.
Sandiford-Artest weathered that storm, however, and went on to a productive career. He most notably vanquished the Boston Celtics as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers when he hit a game-winning three-pointer in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
That makes Sandiford-Artest the perfect person to offer advice to troubled Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, who is currently serving an eight-game suspension for flashing a gun on an Instagram Live feed from a Colorado strip club.
“Obviously, he needs to be busy,” Sandiford-Artest told SiriusXM NBA Radio. “So, he probably should be doing something creative. And it might be business but he needs to do something else with his time. For me, it was the worst thing ever — having time — because I was just doing random, wild stuff with my time…I’m happy he only has [been suspended for] eight games and now he can come back from it and just move on.”
Whether Morant heeds the advice remains to be seen.
