Meek Mill was released from prison Tuesday, five months after his two-to-four-year sentence for a probation violation sparked national outrage and prompted widespread scrutiny of the criminal justice system.
And where did the Philadelphia rapper go immediately after gaining his freedom? To the Wells Fargo Center, of course, for the Sixers’ Game 5 playoff matchup against the Heat. He arrived (via helicopter!) before game time and declared, “I feel great” as he entered the building.

Sixers players, who have been front and center in the #FreeMeek movement, seemed quite happy to see him.
As promised, Meek rang the Sixers’ ceremonial Liberty Bell during the pregame festivities, while wearing a crisp blue Joel Embiid jersey.
The Sixers then continued the Meek Mill theme, running out of the tunnel and onto the floor as the rapper’s hit song “Ima Boss” blared from the arena loudspeakers.
It’s great to see Meek out of prison, not only because he’s a famous rapper but also because it’s preposterous that anyone should have to serve prison time for popping wheelies on a bike. Now we’ll see whether the Sixers can deliver a series-clinching victory as a welcome-home present to the Philly native. At this writing, they’re leading the Heat 23-21 at the end of the first quarter.
