A cryptic Instagram post by LeBron James left the NBA world asking questions Monday, with many fans wondering about the legend’s mindset
The IG post read, “I’m suppose to be #1 on everybody list. We’ll see what happens when I no longer exist.”
Those are lyrics from a 2003 song by Jay-Z, “What More Can I Say.” The last three lines of the song are:
“I supposed to be number one on everybody’s listWe’ll see what happens when I no longer existF— this”
The problem is that many fans who saw his post didn’t realize the reference to the rapper’s song.
Even NBA fans who did get the Jay-Z reference wondered about James’ meaning. Is this really him throwing more fuel on the retirement fire? Other fans claimed it’s just a bid for attention by the Los Angeles Lakers star.
