The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to get back to the NBA Finals under the stewardship of their two All-World superstars, LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Unfortunately, James is sidelined to start the season with sciatica.
As if that weren’t enough, James has now found himself at the center of an FBI investigation related to illegal sports gambling. Former Cleveland Cavaliers player Damon Jones was arrested on Thursday morning for his involvement in an illegal gambling operation, and now details have emerged linking things to LeBron himself, who is a friend of Jones.
“LeBron James was reportedly the player Damon Jones used inside info about before a Feb. 2023 Bucks–Lakers game, per (The Athletic). Jones allegedly told others to bet on Milwaukee after learning LeBron would sit out with ankle soreness — before it was on the injury report,” NBACentral reported.
Fans reacted to the shocking news on social media.
“So LeBron really did follow Jordan’s path but did it better,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“People seeing ‘inside information’ & Damon Jones thinking it’s about point shaving but it’s obviously only injury reports not privy to the public lmaooooo,” someone else added.
“The day after the NCAA legalized players betting on pro sports, the most celebrated NBA player this century is reportedly involved in an FBI investigation on gambling,” another person noted.
It’ll be interesting to see where things go from here.
