Now that the Los Angeles Lakers have been eliminated from the 2024 NBA Playoffs, it’s time for the franchise to think about the future.
The big question is whether or not that future includes LeBron James. The answer to that question might be Bronny James.
LeBron has said that he wants to play alongside his son before retiring from the NBA. Barring a surprise change of heart, Bronny is currently up for consideration in the 2024 NBA Draft.
As NBA insider Shams Charania reports, the Lakers are considering drafting Bronny as part of their efforts to keep LeBron in the purple and yellow as long as possible.
“What happens with [LeBron’s] son, Bronny James, if he does elect to stay in the draft?” asked Charania during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “The Lakers very much have interest in drafting Bronny James. They know LeBron James has spoken on the record about wanting to play with Bronny and, at the end of the day, he wants the best for Bronny. If that means Bronny James getting drafted by another team, making more guaranteed money, he’s obviously gonna be an advocate of that.
“But the Lakers have made it known to him and the world that they are very much in the game as far as trying to pick him. And they’re gonna have potentially a first-round pick and a second-round pick to bring him in. In a perfect world, having LeBron James and Bronny James on this team next season, and moving forward, that is gonna be at least one of the goals for the Lakers.”
It’s going to be a very interesting NBA Draft if other teams start to show interest in Bronny, especially if they have picks before LA.
