The New York Knicks have gotten to the point where if someone is talking about the franchise, they’re almost certainly using them as a punchline. James Dolan’s NBA franchise was the butt of a brutal joke by legendary newscaster Dan Rather on Friday about the ongoing drama surrounding documents that former President Donald Trump took from the White House to Mar-a-Lago.
After news broke on Friday that a woman posed as an heiress of the Rothschild banking dynasty to ingratiate herself to the Trump inner circle and gain access within Mar-a-Lago, many pundits took to Twitter to discuss how bad the security must be there, which is no small thing considering Trump was hoarding top secret documents there.
Rather chimed in with a thought of his own that also happened to fire a shot at the NBA’s moribund Knicks franchise.
Damn, Daniel.
As you might imagine, Knicks fans, who have plenty to feel terrible about when it comes to their team, were wounded by the comparison, even if it was pretty spot-on.

Non-Knicks fans delighted in the comparison and in pointing out how true the sentiment is.
Since 2000 the Knicks have held 777 halftime leads and lost 261 times. (Yes I looked it up.) 66.4% security. Less than ideal, folks! https://t.co/an6IMILXFR

The next time something bad happens for Donald Trump, which should be any minute now, keep an eye out for Dan to come for your favorite team, too. He’s relentless.
