Monday’s Game 2 matchup between the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers looked like it would result in the Sixer evening up the series at one game a piece. But in the final moments of the game, the Knicks were able to steal the game away in one unbelievable sequence.
With just 47 seconds to go in the game, the 76ers led by five points, not an insurmountable lead, but typically a lead that most playoff-caliber teams would be able to hang on to.
However, Knicks star Jalen Brunson was able to make a contested three-point shot to cut the lead to just two points. 76ers star Tyrese Maxey then proceeded to bobble the inbound pass, losing the ball which ended up in the Knicks’ hands.
Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo then took a three-point shot to potentially take the lead, but it hit off the back rim. Isaiah Hartenstein then miraculously flew in to grab an offensive rebound to give DiVincenzo another chance, which he capitalized on to give the Knicks a one-point lead.
In the span of just over 30 seconds, the game completely shifted on its head. And to make matters even worse for 76ers fans, their final possession certainly wasn’t ideal.
Down by three points after a pair of Knicks free throws, the 76ers got one final look, which ended up being a rushed three-point shot from Joel Embiid that ended up missing badly.
Naturally, fans had plenty to say about the entertaining ending to this game on social media.
For the Knicks, it is an unbelievable victory that has to boost their morale as they head for Philadelphia for Game 3 of the series. And for the 76ers, it is an absolutely crushing loss that could certainly make it difficult for them to come back in this series.
It may be a bit of an overreaction to call this the turning point in this series considering there are at least two more games to go. But it certainly could loom large in the Knicks taking full control of this series.
