The Sacramento Kings have largely seen an uptick in their team’s success since Mike Brown was named head coach ahead of the 2022-23 season. On Friday, Brown was rewarded with a contract extension.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the two sides had agreed to a new deal on Friday night, citing Brown’s agent, Warren LeGarie.
“Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown has agreed on a new contract that takes him through the 2026-2027 season, his agent Warren LeGarie tells ESPN. Brown, the 2022-2023 NBA Coach of the Year, gets a new deal with a significant raise,” Wojnarowski shared on X, formerly Twitter.
Wojnarowski later shared the terms of the deal, reporting, “Mike Brown gets a $4 million raise to $8.5 million on the 2024-2025 season left on his deal and then $8.5 million annually in the two new seasons on the contract, sources tell ESPN.”
Prior to Brown’s arrival, the Kings had largely been a downtrodden franchise for the better part of two decades. Brown led Sacramento to a 48-34 record in the 2022-23 season, good enough for a Pacific Division championship and the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. That marked the first winning season and playoff appearance for the Kings since 2006 and their first division championship since 2003.
Sacramento went 46-36 and reached the play-in tournament in 2023-24. The Kings defeated the Golden State Warriors in the 9 vs. 10 game but lost to the New Orleans Pelicans in the game for the No. 8 seed.
