Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant has his teammate’s back.
Durant spoke with the media on Friday, addressing the recent beef between Warriors center Javale McGee and TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal.
Shaq, who frequently puts JaVale McGee on his Shaqtin’ a Fool segment, did a parody Doctor Strange piece, showing off McGee’s career lowlights. The video led to McGee eloquently tweeting Shaq to get his nuts out his mouth. Shaq responded in a mature manner, challenging him to a fight.
Addressing the banter, Durant said Shaq had a vendetta against McGee. He also poked fun at his background with the police:
“I understand Shaq works for a company that wants him to do that type of stuff, make fun of the players,” Durant said. “It’s cool and funny, but when you just keep doing it time and time and time again for no reason — and then the guy actually disagrees with you and you threaten him? I didn’t know cops could threaten civilians like that.”
On top of that, Durant also called Shaq a “shitty free throw-shooter” who “didn’t have no skill.”
Candid Kevin Durant is the best Kevin Durant. He’s absolutely right- Shaq does unfairly target McGee. And Shaq certainly wasn’t mistake-prone himself as a player.
But, to be fair to Shaq, McGee doesn’t make it easy on himself with some of his mishaps on the court.
Will Shaq address Durant’s comments? I hope so. It’s easy to rip McGee. But Durant? Let’s see if Shaq takes a shot at a superstar.
