Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler will make a base salary of $45 million this coming season, so many fans might assume he’s out of touch with the budgetary concerns of ordinary people.
Yet Butler can feel the pinch of high prices just like Joe Six Pack. He posted an Instagram video of his recent experience at a gas pump, where he racked up a $145.28 bill filling his car.
Butler’s not feeling the pain too bad — he put the gas into a Rolls-Royce (and not your base model Rolls, either).
But the six-time All-Star was clearly not happy.
“This is highway ******* robbery,” Butler said in the IG post. “Man, I’m tryna give some of this gas back. Wow.”
It’s not clear where Butler filled his tank, but based on the gas pump reading, he paid about $7.30 a gallon. That’s more than the $6.20 average price for premium gas in California, which has the highest gas prices in the continental U.S., according to AAA. Then again, prices can be considerably higher in rural areas where gas stations are limited.
Butler tried to make light of the situation.
“Hey, you think if I go in there and tell them I put the wrong gas in here, they’d give me a refund?” he asked in the video. “This is crazy. I’m going electric.”
When an NBA star making $45 million a year is complaining about the price of gas, average Americans must definitely be feeling the hurt.
