Despite the controversy surrounding Ja Morant recently, it hasn’t hurt his shoe sales—Morant’s new Nike Ja 1 “Hunger” shoes sold out within minutes on the Nike app.
Despite the shoe company erasing all signs of Morant and his shoes off its site, it didn’t seem to matter. The $110 sneakers did appear on the app and quickly sold out.
There had been speculation that Nike was about to disassociate itself with Morant, but they may be rethinking that now.
Nike had no problem dropping Kyrie Irving from its company after his controversial comments, but this is different with Morant; at least, some think it may be different.
But it remains to be seen if Nike wants its brand to be associated with him, and this latest incident didn’t help him.
Morant had put a cryptic message on social media, which had many concerned about his well-being, so the police did a wellness check on him, and he was fine but it scared many.
Morant issued a statement last week, apologizing for this latest incident with a gun.
“I know I’ve disappointed many people who have supported me,” Morant said through a spokesperson. “This is a journey, and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”
No word from Nike, the Memphis Grizzlies, or Ja Morant about Wednesday night’s incident.
