Stop us if you’ve heard this one before but Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is sorry about the video of him messing around with a gun.
Morant had to apologize for a previous incident that led to an eight-game suspension and loss of almost $700,000 in salary.
Over the weekend, the Grizzlies star was once again shown on social media toting a firearm, despite having said that he’s learned his lesson the last time. While he awaits a much harsher punishment from the league over his latest transgression, Morant released an apology statement on Tuesday night.
“I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me,” said Morant in a statement shared by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself.”
The statement didn’t exactly light the NBA world on fire. If anything, the generic nature of the apology led a lot of people to wonder if it was written by Chat GPT and not a human being. Naturally, there were lots of wild reactions to the statement on social media.
Not everyone had a snarky response to Morant’s statement as some shared messages of hope that he gets the help he needs.
A lotta people are gonna pile on Ja Morant right now. I don’t know Ja. But, as a former youngest player in the league, being young and famous and having money is and can be fkng confusing and intoxicating. Life is hard. Confusing. I’m choosing to believe in him. That’s all. https://t.co/gLpiibFRfP
