Over the past few years, Giannis Antetokounmpo has emerged as an absolute superstar for the Milwaukee Bucks, but it sounds like a chance that his time with the team is coming to an end.
During an appearance on ESPN’s First Take on Friday morning, NBA insider Brian Windhorst suggested that there’s “uncertainty” whether or not Giannis Antetokounmpo will be willing to sign a contract extension with the Bucks.
“Is Giannis going to extend? I don’t know. And that uncertainty is what the league is watching right now,” Windhorst said during an appearance on First Take.
Windhorst then suggested that the New York Knicks could be interested in trading for the former MVP superstar.
“The New York Knicks, for example, they’ve 97 percent of their attention on the Miami Heat, 3 percent of their attention on Milwaukee – ‘What’s going on over there? What’s going on over there?'” Windhorst said.
It’s a pretty bold suggestion, and the NBA world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.
Windhorst explained that if the Bucks are not confident that Antetokounmpo will be willing to sign an extension with the team, it makes sense for them to try to trade him in order to get something in return for his departure, mentioning LeBron James’ decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I was Clevaldn with LeBron James. LeBron James was a non-renewable resource for Cleveland – he walks out the door, he’s not coming back,” “In Milwaukee, Giannis Antetokounmpo is a non-renewable resource.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how this situation plays out.
