The Los Angeles Clippers just staged a comeback for the ages.
With 3:34 remaining in the game, Detroit Pistons forward Isaiah Stewart completed an and-1 to put the Pistons up 126-112. The 14-point lead for the Pistons felt completely safe. Not so fast, my friend: The Clippers then made a run for OT and it was one hell of a run.
Along the rest of the way, the Pistons scored only one point while the Clips bull-rushed their way to tying the game. Then in overtime, the team took over. Los Angeles scored 14 points to Detroit’s 3 to complete the comeback and win 142-131.
ESPN Stats & Info put things in perspective, as they typically do. This one though? A jaw-dropper: “Just how unlikely was the Clippers comeback against the Pistons? Entering Monday, teams were 2-12,873 when trailing by 14+ with 3 minutes remaining in the play-by-play era (since 1996-97). The Clippers were 0-417 in that scenario.”
Wow. That’s all you can say after that.
Then, reactions poured out in the NBA world after the dramatic comeback win.
CBS Sports tweeted a hilarious meme, relating to the comeback, of owner Steve Ballmer.
Elsewhere, Clippers Tomer Azarly then tweeted, “Clippers were literally dead in the water and somehow came back with the most unexpected lineup.”
The Clippers tweeted everyone’s favorite: A win probability graph (!) along with, “Moses is known for miracles.” Moses Brown scored a big rebound that turned the tide for the team down the stretch.
Last, Clippers writer Farbod Esnaashari left the game with one thought. He wrote, “Things we learned today: Terance Mann should play more minutes. Play more wings.”
