A huge three-time trade just went down in the NBA that will have plenty of implications.
The Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, and San Antonio Spurs agreed to a massive three-team trade. The move will send the hard-nosed Grant Williams to Dallas, veteran Reggie Bullock to San Antonio along with a future pick swap, and two second-round draft picks will ship up to Boston.
Shams Charania reported the big move on Twitter.
“The Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, and Boston Celtics are finalizing a three-team trade,” Charania tweeted. He continued:
“- Mavs: Grant Williams
– Spurs: Reggie Bullock and an unprotected Dallas pick swap in 2030
– Celtics: Multiple second-round picks.”
Charania also added a pivotal point to the trade later. Williams will receive a new contract from the Mavericks. The former Tennessee Volunteer star was a restricted free agent, so Dallas had to pony up to acquire him.
“The Mavericks are acquiring Celtics restricted free agent Grant Williams on a four-year, $54 million deal via sign-and-trade,” Charania tweeted.
Williams had been a role player for the Celtics and had played well at times. He caught the ire of many after challenging Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler in the heat of the moment during the 2023 NBA Eastern Conference Finals. Obviously, though, this is now the end of the road for Williams in Boston as he hopes to carve out something new in Dallas.
Reggie Bullock moving to San Antonio is a nice move for a young team that will need some time to gel. At least the Spurs now have Victor Wembanyama. As far as the Celtics? We’ll see what they do with their recent surpluses of second-round draft picks.
